QNAP Snapshots White Paper: A Differential Backup Solution to Optimize Backup and Recovery Time
Taipei, Taiwan, November 26, 2018 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. (QNAP), a leading computing, networking and storage solution provider, today released its “Snapshots” white paper, focusing on the principle behind snapshots, QNAP's implementations of snapshots, and snapshot-related features in QTS (the QNAP NAS operating system). The white paper aims to raise awareness of a key tool in disaster recovery planning to help users mitigate risks of data loss in today’s fast-changing digital world.
QNAP has supported snapshots for years, and now virtually every QNAP NAS features snapshots to protect stored data and further back it up to different destinations, effectively building a solid disaster recovery plan with reduced RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective).
“By utilizing snapshots as part of a disaster recovery plan, users can strike a balance between data security and the total cost of ownership,” said Ripple Wu, Product Manager of QNAP, adding “users also obtain optimized RPO & RTO, with intuitive operations available across the entire organization.”
From QTS 4.3.5, snapshot-related features are further improved to form a complete, more secure backup solution. Users can take snapshots locally, replicate them to a different NAS, and restore from local or remote copies to the local NAS directly. Replicated snapshots can be further duplicated to a third NAS or exported to an external device, ensuring resilient disaster planning against a wide range of scenarios and threats.
