FAQ

NAS (Network-attached Storage) is a file storage system consisting of multiple hard drives, continuously connected to the network. Users can remotely access, sync, and share files stored in the NAS through web browsers or mobile apps. For enterprises and home users, NAS not only has high security but also meets the needs of team collaboration just like public clouds.

QNAP NAS supports RAID configurations including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and global hot spares. Our RAID technology is based on Linux and is not proprietary, so you don't have to worry about having to pay for recovering your data from the NAS vendors.

Yes. All QNAP NAS management and administration pages are web-based and designed for multiplatform access, including Mac, Windows iOS, and Android. You can also mount NAS shared folders on your computer using SMB protocol, then accessing NAS files is as convenient as accessing a local hard drive.

Yes, our NAS systems are powerful enough to let you edit over the network. However, we always recommend users to save an additional copy on the local workstation in case anything happens between the connection between the NAS and the workstation.

You can easily replace smaller hard drives with a larger drive one by one after each one rebuilds online. You can also purchase expansion units (which are more economical) and expand your storage as you go.

We always recommend purchasing hard drives that are designed for NAS. We do not recommend using desktop drives or surveillance drives due to their different spin rates, which might corrupt the RAID configuration of the NAS. Always check the QNAP Compatibility List before purchasing drives to ensure stable NAS operations and data safety.
