My old NAS did not support the latest firmware, can I migrate the drives to another NAS?

Yes, the drives can be migrated to another NAS model even if they do not support the latest firmware version, as long as the models are compatible for migration, you could refer to the compatibility list to confirm.

Once the drives are migrated, the system may prompt for a firmware update to the latest version to ensure that the firmware versions on the drive and the NAS are consistent. Once the update is completed and NAS rebooted, all should work as normal.

Do note, if the storage is create on an older legacy model that does not support certain storage features such as Storage Pool/Snapshots, these features would still not be available after the migration as the storage architecture are different. If you wish to use these features on the new models, the data on the drives will need to be backed up, and recreate a new storage from the new device to get these features.
