Why do garbled texts appear when I open Qfiling logs using Microsoft Excel?

Supports all QNAP NAS models with at least 2GB RAM and QTS 4.3.0 (or later), except TAS series. 4GB or more RAM is recommended for optimum performance.

Microsoft Excel does not support all the CSV encoding formats. Qfiling outputs CSV files in the UTF-8 format, but the default encoding format in Excel is ANSI. As a result, characters in certain languages (such as Chinese, Japanese, and Thai) may not be displayed correctly.

To correctly display Qfiling logs on Excel, follow these steps:

On a Mac
1. Open the CSV file with TextEdit.
2. Save the CSV file as a new file.
  1. Select “Unicode (UTF-16)” as the plain text encoding.
  2. Click “Save”.
3. Open Microsoft Excel.
4. Add a workbook.
5. Click "Data" on the toolbar.
6. Click "From Text”.
7. Select the modified CSV file and then click “Get Data”.
8. Select “Delimited”, File origin“Macintosh” and then click “Next”.
9. Select “Comma” and then click “Next”.
10. Click “Finish”.
On a Windows PC
1. Open the CSV file with Notepad.
2. Save the CSV file as a new file.
  1. Select “Unicode” as the plain text encoding.
  2. Click “Save”.
3. Open Microsoft Excel.
4. Add a workbook.
5. Click “Data” on the toolbar.
6. Click “From Text”.
7. Select the modified CSV file and then click “Get Data”.
8. Select “Delimited”, File origin“Unicode (UTF-8)” and then click “Next”.
9. Select “Tab”, “Comma” and then click “Next”.
10. Click “Finish”.
