QuWAN Orchestrator 2.8

2025-06-25

QuWAN Orchestrator 2.8 introduces new features to strengthen network security and improve centralized management for your SD-WAN environment. This release adds intrusion prevention system (IPS) integrationl, backhaul internet trafficand support for segment-level firewall rule application.

Explore What’s New for details about these major features and Other Changes for additional enhancements, fixes, and known issues included in this release.

What’s New

IPS support for QNAP QHora routers and QuWAN vRouters

QuWAN Orchestrator now supports intrusion prevention system (IPS) on QNAP QHora routers running firmware version 2.6 or later and QuWAN vRouter devices running version 2.8 or later. This integration uses the IPS signature ID database maintained by Lionic Corporation to detect and block network threats in real time.

IPS operates by inspecting network traffic, identifying known threat patterns based on signature IDs, and taking predefined actions when a match is found. When a threat is detected, the system logs the event and denies the associated traffic, helping to reduce the risk of security incidents within your network environment.

A dedicated IPS dashboard has been added to QuWAN Orchestrator, providing real-time visibility into detected threats. You can review incidents by signature ID, track the frequency of logged threats, and access real-time alerts generated by the system. This release includes a free trial of the IPS feature for eligible devices.

Segment-level firewall rule application and device management

You can now apply segment-level firewall rules to specific devices within a segment, improving efficiency when managing consistent security policies across multiple devices. Additionally, you can move devices between segments or add new QuWAN devices to a segment to maintain organized and flexible network segmentation.

Note: When applying segment firewall rules to devices, those rules are evaluated alongside other firewall rule types configured for the device. For details about rule priority and processing order, see https://www.qnap.com/go/how-to/faq/con_show.php?cid=3025.

Backhaul internet traffic routing for unified policy management

QuRouter now supports backhaul internet for routers added to a QuWAN network. When configured via QuWAN Orchestrator, designated devices can route their internet-bound traffic through a central hub router.

Backhaul internet enables unified traffic inspection, consistent policy enforcement, and streamlined internet access control across distributed network environments. By directing traffic through the hub, you gain improved visibility and enhanced security for internet-bound data within your network.
