Which external media players can Qfile Pro use for video playback?
Applicable Products
- Qfile Pro (iOS/Android)
Overview
Qfile Pro enables you to play video files stored on your QNAP NAS using third-party media player apps installed on your mobile device. The app uses your device’s operating system to provide an “Open with” option, allowing you to select from compatible media players available on your device.
Supported third-party media players
Qfile Pro does not restrict you to specific third-party media players. Instead, it supports any media player app that can handle standard video file types on iOS or Android. The following media players are commonly recommended for optimal compatibility, but you may use any compatible app available on your device:
- iOS: VLC media player, AcePlayer, GPlayer, OPlayer/OPlayer Lite, nPlayer, Infuse
- Android: VLC for Android, MX Player, XPlayer, KMPlayer, Nova Video Player
After tapping a video file in Qfile Pro, select your preferred player when prompted. If your desired player is not listed, ensure it is installed and supports the video format you wish to play.
Note: If your NAS is connected via CloudLink (myQNAPcloud Link), iOS will not allow playback with third-party apps. Use your NAS’s FQDN, public IP, or a VPN connection instead.
Limitations
- Supported video formats depend on the capabilities of your chosen third-party media player, not Qfile Pro itself.
- Some video formats may require transcoding if not supported by your selected player.
