How do I configure iSCSI target network portal binding after downgrading QTS or QuTS hero from version 5 to version 4?

QTS 5, QuTS hero 5

Overview

From QTS/QuTS Hero 5, the iSCSI feature Service Binding has been replaced with Network Portal Binding. Network Portal Binding is more secure than Service Binding and includes support for virtual LAN. If you downgrade a NAS from QTS/QuTS Hero 5 to QTS/QuTS Hero 4, Service Binding will be reset and iSCSI initiators may lose access to NAS services.

Solution

If you must downgrade to QTS/QuTS hero 4, then after you downgrade you must reconfigure iSCSI Service Binding.

  1. Go to Control Panel > Network & File Services > Network Access > Service Binding.
  2. Select Enable Service Binding.
  3. Under iSCSI Service, select one or more network interfaces.

If your storage pool is not live during the QTS/QuTS hero downgrade, iSCSI targets will drop down from the initiator site. You must rebuild the new LUN, map to the target, and the connection will return.

Important
  • By default, all QTS and QuTS hero services are available on all iSCSI interfaces.
  • Services must be bound to at least one interface.
