What should I do if Time Machine couldn't backup over SMB?

If you find that Time Machine couldn't be backup by SMB, follow the procedures

  • Login QTS as administrator, open Cotrol Panel

    • Make sure the NAS is running QTS 4.3.5 or later version

    • Find Network & File Services > Microsoft Networking

      1. Tick on Enable file service for Microsoft networking and apply the setting.

      2. Click on Advance Options

        • Find Highest SMB version and select SMB 3.0 or later version and apply the setting.
    • Find Privilege > Shared Folders and Locate Shared Folder you want to use Time Machine Backup.

      1. Click on Edit Property

        • Tick on Set the folder as Time Machine backup Folder(macOS) and press OK.
      2. Click on Edit Shared Folder Permission

        • Give read/write permission to the user who could do Time Machine Backup.
  • In MacOS,

    • Open Finder, choose Go > Connect to Server

      1. Insert smb://YOUR_NAS_IP/ and Click Connect.
      1. Select your Time Machine backup Folder and press OK.
      1. Input username/password to mount the folder and keep the folder mounted
    • Open Time Machine

      1. Click on Select Backup Disk..
      2. Slelect Time Machine backup Folder and press Use Disk
