Why am I unable to configure my device as a hub or an edge on QuWAN Orchestrator?

When creating a QuWAN organization, make sure that the first device you add to the region is a hub. To create a mesh network, you require at least one hub.

If you are unable to configure your SD-WAN device as either hub or edge, check the following device role requirements:

Device Role Requirements
Hub

The primary device deployed in a region. To configure your device as a hub, make sure it meets the following requirements:

  • Assign a valid public IP address to the device.
  • Ensure that you have not assigned a private IP address to the device.
  • Ensure that you have not configured behind Network Address Translation (NAT) settings on the device.

Note: If you have configured behind NAT settings on the device and you want to set up the device as a hub, change the WAN IP attribute on QuWAN Orchestrator and enable port forwarding on the router that is in front of the QuWAN device.

Follow the steps below to check and change the WAN IP attribute:

  1. Log in to QuWAN Orchestrator.
  2. Go to QuWAN Topology > Topology Settings.
  3. Identify the QuWAN device.
  4. Click img.
    The Edit Device Topology Settings window appears.
  5. Beside WAN IP attribute, click Check.
    The Service Port Check window appears.
  6. Click Service Management Settings to configure the dedicated VPN-accessible ports.
  7. Click + Custom Service.
  8. Specify the port name, port number, protocol, and description.
  9. Click img.
    QuWAN Orchestrator saves the service port settings.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Click Check again.
    After configuring dedicated service port settings and performing the WAN IP attribute check, QuWAN Orchestrator should attribute the device with Behind NAT (Device role – Hub or edge).
    If the device is not attributed with Behind NAT (Device role – Hub or edge), make sure you modify the port settings again by following steps 5 to 11.
  12. Select Hub as the device role.
  13. Click Save.

Edge

A device deployed in a region that connects to a hub and can access centralized SD-WAN resources. To configure the device as an edge, make sure it meets the following requirements:Ensure that you have configured another QuWAN device as a hub using a public IP address.Verify if at least one hub in the region that the edge can connect to.
