7 Reasons
Why You Need a NAS

KeyVision

Digital files are increasing day by day.
Are you feeling the same way?

  • I store my files on the phone and laptop, but…

They are running out of storage space.
I need to delete files frequently, and that’s exhausting!

  • I pay for public cloud space, but…

Its loading speed is slow, and the cost is getting higher!

  • We use external hard drives to back up files, but…

They cannot be used by multiple people at the same time, and we need to carry them around all the time. Is there a better solution?

  • I've heard of NAS, but…

What exactly is NAS? And what’s its benefits to me?

What is NAS?

NAS (Network Attached Storage) is a storage device where you can store photos, videos, music, and documents, and enable users to access and manage them through networks.
It is made up of several components including physical storage drives, central processing unit (CPU), memory, operating system, drive interface, and expansion slots. With growing demand, it is widely used for various business and private purposes to solve many storage problems and other applications.

What make NAS unique among all types of storage solutions?

NAS includes the advantages of diverse storage solutions. Not only can the drive be fully controlled by the users, but it can also be remotely connected to backup and access files anytime and anywhere. Even better, NAS is just like a computer server. It goes beyond storage and allows running networked applications and services.
Whether individuals, families, or businesses, as long as they need file storage, everyone can find a suitable QNAP NAS fulfilling their requirements and budget.

Should I Get a NAS?

Here Are 7 Reasons Why

1 Flexible and Secure Storage Space

NAS is a storage center. Besides determining the storage capacity, you can flexibly scale up the storage for growing data. By leveraging RAID data protection technology, you don’t need to worry about data loss due to failure of hard drives – security and reliability are furthered assured.

2 Share, Sync, and Manage Files on the Go

There are many ways to manage files with QNAP NAS. In addition to managing NAS files as a local folder and via browsers on a computer, you can remotely share and synchronize files through mobile apps, and quickly search files with a smart search engine. Other NAS devices and cloud storage can also be connected to a NAS for central management.

3 Photo Management Made Easy

Free up mobile space easily by enabling auto upload of photos from your phone to NAS and enjoy easy photo sharing with your friends and families. The powerful AI-driven photo management provided by QNAP NAS automatically creates albums for specific people, objects, and locations, making organizing, browsing, and searching photos extreme easy and convenient!

4 Well-rounded Data Protection

With QNAP’s comprehensive backup solutions, you can easily back up files from your computers, mobile phones, cloud, and emails to QNAP NAS, and then count on multi-version snapshots on the NAS to restore data whenever needed. Remote connection to QNAP NAS is also safe thanks to the simple and secure myQNAPcloud Link service.

5 Integrated with Your Using Cloud

You can flexibly mount your public cloud storage to your NAS for centralized management and access (without occupying NAS space) and schedule backup jobs to achieve secure remote backup. Depending on the importance, privacy, and usage frequency of files, you can store your files in the public clouds or the more private NAS to achieve perfect balance of “security” and “convenience”.

6 Building Home Security Surveillance is Also Easy

Do you know you can set up a surveillance system with a NAS? All you need is a QNAP NAS, with the installation of QVR Elite surveillance software and compatible cameras. Even a beginner can easily build a home security monitoring system to safeguard home or office environments.

7 NAS, Also a Multifunctional Computer

In addition to providing powerful storage and management, QNAP NAS has more advanced applications than you can imagine!

  • Windows® / Ubuntu® PC

Run a Windows® or Ubuntu® virtual machine on the NAS, use HDMI™ output to display the virtual machine desktop on a monitor, and operate it directly with a keyboard and mouse. The NAS instantly becomes your personal computer.

  • Host a WordPress site on NAS

Install the WordPress app on your NAS and enable the database application. You can easily have a professional website without writing any code, and all web page data is safely stored in your own NAS.

  • Video Post-Production

Choose a higher-performance QNAP NAS that has 2.5GbE, 10GbE or Thunderbolt™ to centrally store audio and video files. You can directly edit videos in the NAS (Real-time editing) from your computer with greater efficiency, with video files not occupying your computer storage.

“Bay” represents the number of hard disk slots (not the capacity); it affects the RAID configurations that NAS can support.
Taking a 4-bay NAS as an example, the configurable and common RAID types are RAID 5 or RAID 6. If the user uses four 2 TB hard drives and configures RAID 5, then the available storage space is 6 TB while allowing the data to be recovered in the case of 1 disk drive failure. If the user configures RAID 6, the available storage space is 4 TB and the number of tolerated failed drives is 2.
You can use RAID Calculator to compare the available capacity with different hard drive size and RAID types and determine the number of bays and NAS model you need.

Whether you are a beginner, have some knowledge of electronics, or an IT professional, you can easily install and use a QNAP NAS. The QNAP NAS operating system provides a "Smart Installation Guide", and by following a few easy steps, you can complete the initial installation and setup.
