QTS, Qsync Client

Scenario

Qysnc Client cannot sync paired folders under the root .Qsync folder after you move your home folder to a new volume.

This tutorial explains how to re-sync paired folders after moving your home folder to a new volume.

Solution

If your home folder is moved to a new volume, the root .Qsync folder where all your synced files are located does not move to the new volume. Instead, a new root .Qsync folder is created under the new home folder, and Qsync Central automatically uses this new .Qsync folder. The original .Qsync folder and all your synced files inside still exist, but become inaccessible to File Station and Qsync Central, because the original parent home folder no longer exists.

In order to re-sync your files, you need to copy your original files on the previous volume to the new .Qysnc folder on the new volume:

  1. Unpair the local folder that is paird to the original root .Qsync folder.
    1. Open Qsync Client.
    2. Click View and manage paired folders.
    3. Locate the paired folder and click X.
The Deleting Folder Pair window appears.
    4. Click OK.
      The folder is unpaired.
  2. Login to your NAS with an administrator account.
  3. Create a shared folder and specify the path as the original home folder.
    1. Go to Control Panel > Privilege > Shared Folders > Shared Folder.
    2. Click Create > Shared Folder.
    3. Under Disk Volume, select the volume of the original home folder.
    4. Under Path, select Enter path manually.
    5. Specify the path to "/homes"
    6. Optional: Configure other shared folder options.
    7. Click Next.
The Configure access privileges for users tab is displayed.
    8. Configure user access privileges.
    9. Click Next.
      The Properties tab is displayed.
    10. Configure properties for the shared folder.
    11. Click Finish.
A new shared folder is created
  4.  Open File Station and locate the newly created shared folder.
The newly created shared folder will contain all of the files and folders of the original "homes" folder. You can access the original root .Qsync folder with this shared folder.
  5. Copy and paste all the contents of the original root .Qsync folder to the .Qsync folder on the new volume.
  6. After copying the contents, you can delete the shared folder if needed.
  7. Open Qsync Client.
  8. Connect to your NAS.
  9. Repair the local folder with the root .Qsync folder on the new volume.
    1. Open Qsync Client.
    2. Click View and manage paired folders.
    3. Click Add.
The Add Folder Pairs window appears.
    4. Under Sync Folder > Folders on the NAS, specify the .Qsync folder on the new volume .
    5. Under Sync Folder > Paired local folder, specify the local folder.
    6. Optional: Enable Space-saving mode.
    7. Click Apply.
