QNAP Releases the ZFS-based QuTS hero h5.2 Featuring Enhanced Performance and Security

Taipei, Taiwan, August 19, 2024 - QNAP® Systems, Inc. (QNAP) today announced the official release of QuTS hero h5.2, the latest version of QNAP’s ZFS-based NAS operating system. This new release emphasizes significant enhancements in security features, system performance, and management efficiency, catering specifically to the evolving needs of QNAP NAS users.
“QuTS hero NAS is the preferred choice for highly reliable ZFS storage solutions to enterprises”, said Tim Lin, Product Manager of QNAP, adding “These enhancements empower businesses with strengthened IT efficiency and system reliability, making QuTS hero an indispensable ally in the ever-evolving technological landscape.”
Key new features in QuTS hero h5.2:
- Kernel Mode SMB Daemon acceleration technology further enhances the SMB transmission performance of NAS. Performance takes another leap forward especially in an all-flash storage architecture configured with SMB Multichannel.
- The Security Center actively defends against ransomware by monitoring file activities on the NAS. Upon detecting unusual activity, it swiftly implements protective actions—protecting, backing up, or blocking access—to significantly reduce the risk and impact of data loss from ransomware or other threats.
- Support for SED with the TCG-Ruby standard enhances security by providing encryption for entire drives, complying with modern NVMe and other storage technologies. This aligns with enterprise and data center needs, ensuring adherence to regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, and HITECH.
- The backup and restore feature for NAS system settings now offers enhanced flexibility, allowing users to select specific elements like network configurations or permissions settings to restore, ensuring more tailored and convenient system management.
- The installed-app list feature allows for easy app reinstallation on new or multiple NAS devices by uploading the list to myQNAPcloud, streamlining device management and saving time.
- QuTS hero h5.2 enhances NAS startup and shutdown speeds, achieving up to a 50% improvement in efficiency.
- AD domain login on QNAP NAS is now more streamlined — users can simply enter their domain username to access the system, eliminating the need to input the full AD domain name.
