Overview
Wake-on-LAN (WoL) is a feature that allows you to remotely power on your QNAP NAS by sending a special network packet, known as a "magic packet," to the device. This feature is useful for remote management and energy savings, as the NAS can remain powered off until needed.
Details
- Default Ports: QNAP NAS uses UDP port 9 and port 40000 for Wake-on-LAN.
- Network Requirements:
- The NAS must be connected to a network that supports broadcast packets.
- WoL packets are usually sent to the NAS's MAC address using the broadcast IP address.
- Some routers or firewalls may block broadcast packets or UDP ports. Ensure these ports are open if sending WoL packets across subnets or from the internet.
- Configuration: Wake-on-LAN must be enabled in QTS/QuTS hero under Control Panel > System > Power > Wake-on-LAN.
- Model Support: Not all QNAP NAS models support Wake-on-LAN. Please verify your model’s specifications.
