Solution

There are many possible issues on either your NAS or your SMB client that may cause this problem. QNAP recommends working through each of the following possible solutions.

QNAP NAS

• Update your NAS to the current firmware.
• Confirm the files are accessible within File Station.
• Enable SMB on the NAS.
• Go to Control Panel > Network & File Services > Win/Mac/NFS/WebDAV > Microsoft Networking.
• Configure the highest and lowest SMB version.
• Go to Control Panel > Network & File Services > Win/Mac/NFS/WebDAV > Microsoft Networking > Advanced Options.
Note
For security reasons, the highest SMB version is SMB 3 and the lowest SMB version is SMB 2. Some legacy devices may only support the less secure SMB 1 standard. In these cases, you must change the lowest SMB version to SMB 1. For details, see here.
• Grant folder permissions to the associated NAS user.
• Go to Control Panel > Privilege > Shared Folder and edit the shared folder permissions.
• Remove all entries from the shared folder.
• Go to Control Panel > Privilege > Shared Folder. Click Edit and go to Microsoft Networking host access.
• Remove any network blocks.
• Check if the client is blocked by QuFirewall.
• Go to Control Panel > Security and remove the client from the Allow/Deny list.

SMB Client

• Confirm the NAS and the SMB client are located on the same network.
• Disable Windows Hello Authentication in Windows 10 or 11 to avoid using Microsoft Account over SMB share.
• Map the network drive using Qfinder. For details, see here.
• Remove your QNAP NAS credentials from the Windows Credential manager. For details, see here.
• If the issue persists, release the current network drive connection and remap the network drive using Qfinder.
1. Quit all File explorer windows.
2. Run the following command from the command line:
net use * /y /d
3. Remap the network drive using Qfinder.
• If the issue still persists, contact QNAP support.
• Run the following command from the command line:
net use Z: \\NAS_IP_address\Public /user:Username_with_Public_folder_permission
• Note the returned errors for use with QNAP support.
• Contact QNAP support. For details, see here.
