How can I reduce SnapSync job impact on my NAS performance?

Background and Cause

SnapSync is a real-time backup solution that allows you to keep data between two QuTS hero NAS devices synchronized at all times. To maintain this high level of data synchronization, a SnapSync job needs to frequently and regularly check data changes on the source NAS and transfer those changes to the destination NAS, so some impact on system performance is expected.

However, in QuTS hero versions h5.1.1 and earlier, if "Encrypt data during transfer" is enabled in a SnapSync job, when the job runs it can take up a significant amount of system resources, thereby greatly affecting overall NAS performance.

Solution

Starting from QuTS hero h5.1.2, we have improved the "Encrypt data during transfer" feature and significantly reduced its impact on system performance.

To enjoy improved NAS performance while requiring your SnapSync data to be encrypted during transfer, please update QuTS hero to h5.1.2 or later.

Important

Make sure to update both the source and destination NAS devices to QuTS hero h5.1.2 or later.
