FAQs for SSD Cache Issues in QTS 5.0.0

Q: My NAS is running QTS 4.5.x. Is my device affected by the SSD cache issues?
A: All the devices running QTS versions earlier than 5.0.0 are not affected. If you update your QTS from 4.5.x to 5.0.0.1891  (or later versions), which includes fixes for these issues, your device will not be affected, either.

Q: My NAS is running an earlier version of QTS 5.0.0. Is my device affected by the SSD cache issues?
A: The issues may affect x86-based NAS models using SSD cache and running one of the following earlier QTS 5.0.0 versions:

  • QTS 5.0.0.1716 Build 20210701 (Public Beta)
  • QTS 5.0.0.1785 Build 20210908 (Release Candidate)
  • QTS 5.0.0.1808 Build 20211001
  • QTS 5.0.0.1828 Build 20211020
  • QTS 5.0.0.1837 Build 20211029
  • QTS 5.0.0.1850 build 20211111
  • QTS 5.0.0.1853 build 20211114
  • QTS 5.0.0.1858 build 20211119
  • QTS 5.0.0.1870 build 20211201

Q: My NAS runs QTS 5.0.0 out of the box. Is my device affected by the SSD cache issues?
A: All QNAP x86-based NAS models  using SSD cache and running an earlier QTS 5.0.0 version may be affected.

Q: My NAS matches the criteria. Does this mean that my device is definitely affected?
A: No, this simply means that your device is likely to encounter these issues. Data corruption only occurs on certain devices and under certain conditions.  Nevertheless, even if your device currently functions normally, we still recommend updating your QTS to the latest version to minimize your risk.  

Q: I cannot access some files on my NAS. How can I know if my case is related to these SSD issues? How can I recover my data?
A: Verify whether your NAS is using SSD cache and running an earlier QTS version affected by these issues. If your device matches the description and if you have taken snapshots, we recommend choosing an appropriate snapshot data recovery option according to your needs. If you have used other backup methods, we recommend creating a volume and moving your backup data to this new volume.
