Why I can't backup to external disk in HBS?

Applicable Products:
Make sure the external drive is mounted and the NAS user (performing the backup) has the correct permissions on the external disk: Control Panel > Privilege > Shared Folders.
If the permissions are incorrect, the drive may not be available and the backup would fail.
