How do I shut down both the active and passive nodes in an HA cluster?

Last modified date: 2025-07-04

Applicable Products

  • QuTS hero h5.3.0 or later
  • High Availability Manager

Scenario

I need to perform system maintenance or relocate my server room, which requires safely powering off both the active and passive nodes in my QNAP high-availability (HA) cluster.

Instructions

In High Availability Manager, you can use the Shut Down Cluster action to shut down both the active and passive nodes at the same time. This is a shutdown mechanism designed for scenarios where the entire HA cluster needs to be safely powered off, without triggering failover or suspension.

Important
  • Please back up all important data before performing this operation.
  • Shutting down the cluster interrupts all ongoing services and tasks.
Make sure no important tasks are running before you shut down both nodes.
  1. Log in to the active node.
  2. Go to High Availability Manager > Cluster.
  3. Click , and then select Shut Down Cluster.
    A confirmation window appears.
  4. Click Shut Down.
High Availability Manager shuts down both nodes simultaneously.
    Note

To restart the HA cluster later, you will need to manually power on both NAS devices.
