What should I do if I'm experiencing the NAS unexpected Reboots/System Hang?

If you are experiencing NAS unexpected reboots/system hang, follow the procedures below to resolve the issue.

Check the memory module installed on the NAS.

  • If you changed the memory modules, replace the memory modules with the original one shipped with the NAS

Note: Use only QNAP memory modules to maintain system performance and stability. For NAS devices with more than one memory slot, use QNAP modules with identical specifications.

Important: Using unsupported modules may degrade performance, cause errors, or prevent the operating system from starting.

Disable Third-Party Apps in App Center

  1. Login QTS as administrators

  2. Open App Center

  3. Disable all Third-Party apps in App Center

    • If the issue no longer recurs, enable the third Party app one by one to confirm the cause.
    • if the issue still recurs, run the next step

Disable QNAP Apps in App Center

  1. Login QTS as administrators

  2. Open App Center

  3. Disable all QNAP apps in App Center

    • If the issue no longer recurs, enable the QNAP app one by one to confirm the cause.
    • if the issue still recurs, run the next step

Disable SSD cache if it is enabled

  1. Login QTS as administrators

  2. Find Control Panel > Storage & Snapshots > Storage > Cache Acceleration

  3. Turn off SSD cache

    • If the issue no longer recurs,

      1. Remove SSD cache
      2. Recreate SSD cache
    • if the issue still recurs, run the next step

Check if the HDD is in the compatibility list

  1. Login QTS as administrators

  2. Find Control Panel > Storage & Snapshots > Storage > Disk/VJOB

  3. Note the disk model

  4. Compare the disk models with the QNAP compatibility list

  5. Replace the incompatible disk

    • if the issue still recurs, run the next step

Run bad block scan and SMART complete Test on the disks

  1. Login QTS as administrators

  2. Find Control Panel > Storage & Snapshots > Storage > Disk/VJOB

  3. Check all disk status

    • Click Action > Scan for Bad Blocks
    • Click Disk Health > Test > Complete Test
  4. Check the result
