Waving the Flag for Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade - QNAP to Power Chinese Television System’s Broadcasting of the Games with a Rock-solid Data Backup Solution
Taipei, Taiwan, August 23, 2017 - QNAP® Systems, Inc. is honored to be one of the storage and backup device suppliers for Chinese Television System (CTS), the host broadcaster of the 2017 Summer Universiade games taking place in Taipei, Taiwan from 19-30 August 2017. CTS, the national broadcaster of Taiwan, is the main broadcasting service provider of this high-profile international sporting event. To deliver the ultimate viewing experience to millions of viewers worldwide, CTS set up the International Broadcasting Center (IBC) and selected an array of state-of-the-art media equipment for sustainable broadcasting operations. To fulfill the needs for backing up the large amounts of digital content generated from the games, the IBC deployed QNAP NAS units to build a reliable and effective data backup solution.
The IBC is using QNAP TS-1685 and TS-1635 units to backup the large high-resolution digital video data generated from broadcasting the Universiade games. It is estimated that the Universiade games will produce hundreds of terabytes of live videos, and all the data will be transmitted and stored onto the IBC’s centralized storage system. As the first step of daily backup routine, new data will be backed up to the QNAP TS-1685 after the matches of the day. Afterwards, at 4:00 a.m. every morning, through Real-time Remote Replication (RTRR), the TS-1685 will automatically replicate and back up the data to five TS-1635 units. Both the TS-1685 and TS-1635 support 10 GbE high-speed networks and are capable of delivering lightning-fast data throughput to accelerate the backup process for a large amount of data.
“To broadcast the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade live is an important designation for us, as it is the largest international sporting event ever hosted by Taiwan. So it is imperative that the IBC uses a reliable solution for delivering, storing and backing up live video coverage of the games. From our previous experiences using QNAP NAS, we have been very impressed by the NAS units’ high performance,” said Chao-I Lee, Deputy Manager of CTS's Transmission Center, adding “therefore, when we planned our backup solution, we selected QNAP. Alongside the large storage potential of the TS-1685 and TS-1635, they deliver high performance in terms of data backup. The QNAP NAS RTRR feature also greatly automates backup to simplify and streamline routine backup tasks. With QNAP NAS, backup is more efficient and time-saving, allowing us to focus our energies on the main broadcast mission."
“It is our honor that CTS chose to adopt QNAP’s storage and backup solution for its International Broadcasting Center. The TS-1685 and the five TS-1635 all use high-capacity 10TB hard drives, configured with RAID 50 and RAID 6 respectively. The NAS units not only provide great storage potential for large data but so excel in data protection, providing unmatched sustainability and reliability,” said Paul Fang, Account Sales Manager of QNAP Taiwan Sales Department, “moreover, during the Universiade, QNAP will have our engineer onsite at the IBC to work closely with the IBC team and provide around-the-clock technical assistance.”
