High-speed 25GbE Networking

QNAP all-flash NAS models support 25GbE networking, and can be used with the QXG-25G2SF-CX6 to expand network connectivity. It can also be used with a 25GbE Switch to build a budget-friendly high-speed network environment.

Strengthen Your Virtualization and Storage Environment with SR-IOV, RoCE, and NFS over RDMA

The QXG-25G2SF-CX6 supports SR-IOV, which can allocate bandwidth resources from a physical network card directly to VMs. It ensures reliable VM applications and reduced CPU overheads. The QXG-25G2SF-CX6 also supports RoCE, which can access a network directly in RAM to effectively reduce latency and enhance performance and efficiency for VMware® virtualization environments. Building upon RoCE technology, the QXG-25G2SF-CX6 now fully supports the NFS over RDMA network file system 🆕. This hardware-offloaded feature allows clients to directly access data in the NAS memory, bypassing the operating system's network stack. It significantly reduces I/O latency, lowers CPU utilization, and delivers ultimate transfer performance for intensive workloads like video post-production, AI training, and High-Performance Computing (HPC).

Note:
1. SR-IOV is supported by specific QNAP NAS models and should work with SR-IOV compatible adapters. Click here to check supported NAS models.
2. To utilize NFS over RDMA, the NAS operating system must be updated to QTS 5.2.6 or QuTS hero h5.2.6 (or later). Both the QNAP NAS equipped with the QXG-25G2SF-CX6 and the receiving-end devices must support RoCE. If the receiving devices do not support RoCE, the connection will automatically fall back to standard TCP/IP.

Ensure Reliable Data Transfer with Forward Error Correction (FEC)

The QXG-25G2SF-CX6 supports FEC to overcome packet loss—a potentially common occurrence in fast, long-distance networks. FEC helps the receiving side detect and recover lost data to correct bit errors, thus ensuring reliable data transmission over “noisy” communication channels. With three FEC modes, you can use a suitable cable and switch to build an optimal network environment.

Mode Latency Distance
NO FEC Lowest Shortest
BASE-R FEC
(Firecode)
~ 80ns Middle
RS-FEC
(Reed Solomon)
~ 260ns Longest

1. The transmitter (source) and the destination (receiver) must use the same mode.
2. If the QXG-25G2SF-CX6 cannot connect to the switch, please check if the latest firmware of the switch supports FEC. If FEC is not supported by the switch, the FEC function of the NIC should be disabled using the NAS or computer operating system.

Supports Windows and Linux Servers/Workstations

Besides QNAP devices, the QXG-25G2SF-CX6 supports many platforms, including Windows® 10, Windows Server®, and Linux® (driver required) which allows you to attain optimal business performance for a wider range of system applications and services. The higher bandwidth density with reduced links helps reduce cabling footprint and operational costs.

Firmware Notice: QNAP network adapters are validated with firmware versions released or approved by QNAP. Firmware updates performed using unauthorized firmware packages or utilities are not supported by QNAP. Issues caused by unauthorized firmware modifications may not be covered under warranty or technical support.
