How to Import/Export iSCSI LUN in QNAP NAS?

Export an iSCSI LUN

Before export an iSCSI LUN, make sure at least one iSCSI LUN has been created. To create iSCSI targets and LUNs, go to “iSCSI & Fiber Channel” > “iSCSI Storage”

  1. Go to Storage & Snapshots > iSCSI & Fiber Channel

  2. Go to iSCSI & Fiber Channel > LUN Import/Export and click Create a Job.

  3. Select Export a LUN and choose the source LUN for exporting then click Next

  4. Specify the destination where the LUN will be exported to. QTS supports LUN exports to the following destinations.

    • Linux share (NFS),
    • Windows share (CIFS/SMB)
    • Local host

then click Test to confirm that the settings are correct before clicking Next.

  1. Select the subfolder where the image file will be stored.

  2. Finish the following settings.

    1. Enter a name for the export LUN image or use the one generated by QTS.

    2. Select whether to use compression or not before clicking Next. Note: Use Compression: When this option is enabled, more system resources will be used but the size of the backup LUN can be reduced. The backup time will vary depending on the size of the iSCSI LUN.

    3. Specify the backup schedule. The options available are:

      • Now
      • Hourly
      • Daily
      • Weekly
      • Monthly
  1. Confirm if the setting are correct and click Apply.
    The backup job will be shown on the list.

Import an iSCSI LUN
  1. Go to Storage & Snapshots > iSCSI & Fiber Channel

  2. Go to iSCSI & Fiber Channel > LUN Import/Export and click Create a Job.

  3. Select Import a LUN

  4. Specify the protocol, IP address/host name, and folder/path of the import source. Click “Test” to confirm that the settings are correct before clicking Next.

  5. Browse and select the LUN image file and click Next.

  6. Select one of the following methods to import iSCSI LUN.

    • Overwrite existing LUN: Import the iSCSI LUN and overwrite the existing LUN in the NAS. All of the data on the original LUN will be overwritten.
    • Create a new LUN: Import the iSCSI LUN as a new LUN. Enter the name and select the location of the new LUN.

    Click Next.

  7. The settings will be shown.Click Apply to exit.
    The Import job will be executed immediately.
