When using a Mac to modify a file on the NAS via SMB, why are there multiple versions of the file in the ’’@Recycle’’ folder on the NAS?

This is normal behavior of Mac OS X. It generates temporary versions of the file and then deletes them. These files are not generated by the NAS.
