What to do if NAS is not listed in the Network neighborhood?

Last modified date: 2020-10-29

Applied models:

  • All NAS Series

Applied Firmware:

  • All Firmware Versions

If you experience the behaviour where the NAS is accessible from a PC as normal, but it does not appear in the Network neighbourhood, you could try the following steps to detect the NAS so it appears as one of the Network devices.

Launch the command prompt on your Windows PC and run the following commands:

  • Purge and reload the remote cache name table

Nbtstat -R

  • Send Name Release packets to WINS

Nbtstat -RR

  • List the remote devices name table by IP ([NAS_IP] is the IP of your NAS)

Nbtstat -A [NAS_IP]

Try connecting to your NAS using Windows File Explorer and then refresh File Explorer. The NAS should now be listed under Network Devices.
