Why can't I update antivirus definitions on legacy models?

Last modified date: 2023-11-06

Applicable Products

QTS 4.3.4, QTS 4.3.3, QTS 4.2.6, Antivirus

Cause

Legacy QNAP models use antivirus software developed by ClamAV. Starting in March 2021, ClamAV updated their server security policy to stop providing virus definitions for older version of their antivirus engine. Because QNAP has ended support for legacy models, there are no plans to provide bug fixes or software updates to resolve this issue.

Solution

To resolve this issue, QNAP recommends using antivirus software on your Windows or macOS device to scan the NAS files.

  1. Disable the warning message.

    1. Go to Applications > Antivirus > Overview.

    2. Disable Check and update automatically.

  2. Mount the NAS shared folders as network drives on your local device.

  3. Scan the network drives using antivirus software.
