Overview
The NAS system time must be accurate in order for many applications and services to run properly. If the system time is not accurate, you may encounter a variety of problems, including but not limited to the following:
- Event logs do not reflect the exact time that events occurred.
- Scheduled tasks run at the wrong time.
- Unable to log in with 2-step verification.
- The device cannot be joined to a Microsoft Active Directory.
- The device's firmware cannot be updated.
This tutorial explains how to synchronize the NAS system time with a public NTP server.
Solution
- Go to Control Panel > General Settings > Time.
- Select Synchronize with a time server automatically.
- Under Server, specify one of the following Public NTP servers:
- time.facebook.com
- time.windows.com
- time.apple.com
- time.google.com
- Specify the Time Interval. This is how often in days or hours the system will automatically synchronize with the specified NTP server. Repeated synchronizations with the NTP server ensure that the NAS system time is as accurate as possible.
- Click Apply.
