Briefly describe how the High Availability feature of the ES NAS works.
The dual controllers of the ES NAS communicate via Non-Transparent Bridges (NTB) with a common backplane, which detects activity signals of the target controller. If Controller A fails, Controller B will automatically take over all tasks and network settings of Controller A. This means that the network card on Controller B will hold Controller A’s IP address concurrently. Regardless of whether the user connects using the IP of Controller A or B, the response will be provided by Controller B that is working normally. This ensures an uninterrupted service. The reverse applies if Controller B were to fail.
If the ES NAS fails, the default system setting is automatic takeover. Hence, neither the user nor network manager has to manually change or set the IP address.
