Are there any limitations when using Snapshot-related features after enabling FileTiers?
Yes. When FileTiers is enabled and files have been tiered to Remote Storage, certain Snapshot-related operations may not guarantee that these tiered data can be properly accessed or read.
This situation may occur in the following scenarios:
Using Snapshot Clone to create a new Shared Folder
If the Snapshot contains files that have already been tiered to remote storage, the Shared Folder created through Snapshot Clone may not be able to properly access or read those tiered data.
Exporting a Snapshot to another NAS and importing it
When a Snapshot is exported from the source NAS and imported to another NAS, if the Snapshot contains files that have been tiered to remote storage, the destination NAS may not be able to properly access or read those tiered data.
Using SnapSync to synchronize a Snapshot to another NAS
If the Snapshot contains files that have been tiered to remote storage, after the Snapshot is synchronized to another NAS via SnapSync, the destination NAS may not be able to properly access or read those tiered data.
Recommended Practice
To ensure data integrity and file readability, it is recommended to use the Restore Folder To function in Snapshot Manager to restore data. When restoring data through this function, the system will process both local data (Hot data) and tiered remote data (Cold data) to ensure the restored data is complete and the files can be accessed and read normally.
