Overview
QTS/QuTS Antivirus is a system service based the ClamAV anti-virus toolkit that is responsible for protecting your NAS against malicious attacks. In order to recognize current and evolving threats, Antivirus must be kept up to date with periodic updates to its virus signature database (in the form of .cvd files). As of March 2021, the practice of manually updating Antivirus with .cvd files is no longer officially supported by the developers of ClamAV. Instead your QNAP operating system can be configured to automatically update Antivirus using officially supported methods. Despite lacking official support, however, as of Febuary 2023, it is still possible to update the ClamAV database with manual .cvd downloads.
This tutorial explains how to update Antivirus by manually downloading ClamAV database updates.
Manually Updating
- As of February 2023, it is still possible to manually download CalmAV database updates (.cvd files). However, manual downloads are not officially supported. Instead, it is recommended to enable automatic updates for Antivirus. For more information, please read the official notice from ClamAV.
- Manual download links are not guaranteed to be stable, and official ClamAV servers may blacklist your IP without warning. If you are blacklisted, you can try to access these links through another device or WAN IP address.
- Download each of the following .cvd files:
http://database.clamav.net/daily.cvd
http://database.clamav.net/main.cvd
http://database.clamav.net/bytecode.cvd - Go to Control Panel > Applications > Antivirus.
- Import each .cvd file:
- Click Browse.
- Locate and select the .cvd file.
- Click Okay.
- Click Import.
After importing all three .cvd files, Antivirus will be up-to-date.
