Why I cannot access external drives as soons as they are plugged in?

This could be caused by you are not logging as an administrator. The users in the administrator group have access privilege to a USB external drive by default.
Note: Non-administrator users are unable to see the external drive until an administrator user gives them access to the drive.
If you couldn't access the external drive after plugging in, follow the steps below to check:

Log in to QTS as an administrator.

Open File Station to find the external drive.

if not found, open Control Panel > Storage & Snapshots > External devices to know if the external drive is detected and recognized
- Connect the external drive to another USB port.
- Connect another external drive to the NAS and repeat the procedures.

Open Control Panel > Privileges > Shared folders and edit permission of the external drives to other users.
