How to connect to a nearby QNAP NAS if I don't know the IP address?

Follow the steps below to connect the NAS without knowing IP address in advance

  1. Connect Windows PC/macOS to one of network port of the NAS with an ethernet cable directly

  2. Run Qfinder to locate the IP address of the NAS

    In following example, the network port gets an IP address 169.254.12.243

  3. Set up Static IP on Windows PC/macOS with IP address/Submask/Gateway to be Last_number_of_IP_address_plus_one/255.255.0.0/Leave_Empty

    (for example: the network port gets an IP address 169.254.12.243, set up Static IP to be 169.254.12.244 /255.255.0.0/Leave_Empty)

  4. Double clicking on the name will connect to the NAS using Web Browser.
