Why do file or folder names that end with a space appear different when I access the NAS using AFP and then SMB?

Applied Models:

Answer:

AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) allows file or folder names to end with a space or a period character, but Microsoft naming conventions do not. For more information, go to https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365247(v=vs.85).aspx

QNAP provides a solution that helps you work around this issue:

  1. Go to “Control Panel” > “Privilege” > “Shared Folders”.
  2. Locate the file or folder on the shared folder list.
  3. Click “Edit Properties” in the “Action” column.
  4. Enable “Only allows applications to access files using the long file format”.
  5. Click “OK”.
