Why Is the Destination Data Capacity and File Count Inconsistent After a Sync Job Between Two NAS Devices?
Applicable Products
Hybrid Backup Sync
Symptom
When performing a Sync job between two NAS devices, with the "Remove additional files from the destination folder" option enabled, the data capacity and the number of files on the destination may become inconsistent with those on the source after the job has been running for some time.
Solution
This issue occurs because, by default, when the sync job deletes files on the destination, the files are moved to the Recycle Bin instead of being permanently deleted. Although the visible file structure remains synchronized, the deleted files stored in the Recycle Bin still consume storage space and are counted toward the total file number, causing discrepancies between the source and destination.
To resolve this, you can take one of the following actions:
- Empty the Recycle Bin for the destination sync folder. This will immediately free up the space and synchronize the file count with the source.
- Disable the Recycle Bin feature on the destination folder. This will ensure that files deleted during synchronization are permanently removed, maintaining continuous consistency in both storage usage and file counts between the two NAS devices.
The behavior described above is one of the possible causes. If the issue persists or if you have further questions, we recommend opening a technical support ticket for detailed assistance.
