What to do if your source NAS does not support direct migration to the destination NAS

What if your source NAS is not compatible to do direct migration to the destination NAS? For example, you have a TS-469 Pro NAS and would like to migrate to a TS-831X NAS. Unfortunately, you will find that direct migration between these two NAS models are not supported.

 

The following section describes the steps you could do to perform the migration manually.

 

1. Prerequisite

1. Source NAS (TS-469 Pro).

2. Destination NAS (TS-831X).

3. New hard disks for use in new NAS, whose capacity are equal or greater than the ones in the source NAS.

4. Network cables.

5. Power cables.

6. A client PC with QFinder installed.

 

2. Start the initialization of your destination NAS

1. Plug in all of the new hard disks.

2. Connect the network cable to the NAS.

3. Connect the power cable to the NAS and power on the NAS.

4. Launch the QFinder on the client PC to search for the NAS.

5. Connect to the NAS web management page.

6. Follow the quick setup wizard to complete the NAS initialization.

3. Configure the NAS storage space of your destination NAS

1. Go to the destination NAS Control Panel >> System >> Storage & Snapshots to configure the storage pool and volume.

4. Backup users / groups settings (if you used local users / groups)

( Note: You can ignore this step if you intend to join your NAS to a domain, in which case, you need to join your destination NAS to the same domain as the source NAS.)

1. Go to the source NAS Control Panel >> Privilege >> Users to export user settings to a file.

2. Go to the destination NAS Control Panel >> Privilege >> Users to import user settings from the file which you exported from the source NAS.

5. Setup the data sync between two NAS

1. Go to the destination NAS and launch HBS (Hybrid Backup Sync) application in the NAS App Center.

2. Enable and setup the remote server on destination NAS.

3. Go to the destination NAS Control Panel >> Privilege >> Shared Folders to create identical shared folders on the destination NAS.

Go to the source NAS and launch HBS (Hybrid Backup Sync) application in the NAS App Center.

4. Set up a one-way sync job to replicate the data from the source NAS to the destination NAS.

6. Configure shared folder permission on your destination NAS

1. Go to the destination NAS Control Panel >> Privilege >> Shared Folders to configure shared folders permission.

Now, you can shut down your source NAS and start accessing your new destination NAS.
