How does the Backup Battery Unit (BBU) protect data integrity?

Last modified date: 2018-03-02

The Backup Battery Unit (BBU) is located on the left side of the back of the ES NAS controller. If both power supply units of the ES NAS fail, the system will switch to the BBU for power. At the same time, Intel’s Xeon ADR will be activated. During the time that the BBU is supplying power, cached data stored in the DRAM will be written to the backup mSATA/M.2 SSD. Once normal power is resumed and the system is restarted, logs, archives and other important data will be reconstructed based on the data retained in the mSATA SSD. This ensures the integrity of the data during power outages.

If the power supply fails, the cached data stored in the DRAM will be written to the backup mSATA/M.2 SSD while under BBU power.
