16TB Storage Limitation
Applied models:
- Legacy models listed below
If you meet the problems in creating or expanding the volume over 16TB, this happens on older legacy models due to hardware limitations.
Although some models cannot expand over 16TB, you could still create volumes over 16TB from new, using the latest firmware versions.
The following models are not able to create and expand the volume over 16TB:
TS-210, TS-212, TS-212-E, TS-212P, TS-219, TS-219P, TS-219P+, TS-219P II, TS-220, TS-221, TS-228, TS-239 Pro, TS-239 Pro II, TS-239 Pro II+, HS-210, TS-269H, TS-410, TS-410U, TS-412, TS-412U, TS-419P, TS-419P+, TS-419P II, TS-419U, TS-419U+, TS-419U II, TS-420, TS-420U, TS-421, TS-421U, TS-439 Pro, TS-439 Pro II, TS-439 Pro II+, TS-439U-RP/SP, TS-639 Pro, SS-439 Pro, SS-839 Pro
For the following models, the initial volume can be created over 16TB but can’t be expanded over 16TB, ensure the firmware versions is updated to the latest version before creating the new volume:
TS-231,TS-231+,TS-231P,TS-259 Pro,TS-259 Pro+,TS-431,TS-431U,TS-431+,TS-431P,TS-431X,TS-431XU,TS-431XU-RP,TS-459 Pro, TS-459 Pro II, TS-459 Pro+, TS-459U-RP/SP, TS-459U-RP+/SP+, TS-509 Pro,TS-531,TS-531X,TS-559 Pro, TS-559 Pro+, TS-559 Pro II,TS-659 Pro, TS-659 Pro+, TS-659 Pro II,TS-809 Pro,TS-809U-RP,TS-831X,TS-831XU,TS-831XU-RP, TS-859 Pro, TS-859U-RP+, TS-859 Pro+, TS-859U-RP,TS-1231XU,TS-1231XU-RP,TS-1635
If the NAS model is not in the above list and the NAS is installed with the latest firmware QTS 4.4.3, but still meeting the problems in expanding the volume over 16TB,the reason could be that the current volume / Storage pool was created on an old QTS version with limitations, please copy out all the data and re-create volume / Storage pool, then copy the data back. You could also hover the mouse over the Capacity in Storage & Snapshots > Storage/Snapshots to view the byte per inodes used when creating the volume, and their respective maximum volume size and number of files/folders.
