Why don't my photos fit the TV screen when I stream them to my TV?

Last modified date: 2026-08-26

Applicable Products

  • QNAP NAS
  • Multimedia Streaming Add-on

Root Cause

Whether a streamed photo automatically resizes to fill the screen depends mainly on the TV, not the NAS. Some TVs automatically scale photos to fit the full screen. Others display photos at their original size or aspect ratio, which can leave black borders around the image or show only part of it filling the screen.

Workaround

  1. Go to Control Panel > Applications > Multimedia Streaming Add-on.
  2. Click Advanced Settings.
  3. Go to the Browsing Settings tab.
  4. Change the Display Photo setting (for example, from "Large Thumbnail" to "Original") and click Apply All.
  5. On your TV, check its picture or zoom settings menu for a "Full Screen," "Zoom," or "Fit to Screen" option when viewing photos.
Note

If your TV still doesn't fill the screen after trying these settings, this is likely a limitation of the TV's own DLNA photo viewer rather than the NAS. Check your TV's user manual for supported photo display options, or try a third-party DLNA app.
