Why are there many outbound requests to foreign countries from NAS

Scenario

Your router shows a lot of outbound connections from the NAS to foreign countries. I can’t understand what exactly on QNAP generates these requests.

Solution

This is very commonly caused by Download Station’s BitTorrent/DHT/peer-exchange traffic, which can continue even when there are no obvious active tasks.

Stop Download Station
- QTS App Center → Download Station → Stop.
Recheck your router logs
- If the foreign connections drop, Download Station was the source. If not please contact QNAP technical support.
