How can I properly back up and restore system settings in an HA cluster?
Applicable Products
- QuTS hero h5.3.0 and later
- Control Panel
- High Availability Manager
Scenario
I have a high-availability (HA) cluster and tried to use the system backup and restore feature in Control Panel. I could not restore the server name and port number and would like to know about any other limitations or precautions.
Limitations & Best Practices
To ensure system stability and prevent issues, the following limitations apply when restoring system settings to an HA cluster or from an HA cluster to a standalone NAS.
Restoring System Settings to an HA Cluster
- The server name (cluster hostname) and port number in the HA cluster cannot be changed.
Before restoration, ensure that the server name and port number in your backup configuration file match those currently used by the HA cluster.TipYou can manually edit the port number of your HA cluster in Control Panel > System > General Settings > System Administration. - Network settings are not included in the restore process.
This is to prevent HA connection issues. You can manually edit network settings after restoration. - Only shared folders that already exist in the HA cluster can be restored.
To restore a shared folder, make sure the HA cluster has the corresponding shared folder with the same path. - The current High Availability Manager app version must be maintained.
In the Apps page of the Restore System Settings wizard, select "Keep current version" for High Availability Manager.
Restoring System Settings from an HA Cluster to a Standalone NAS
- While you can restore the High Availability Manager app (to either the original version or latest available version), HA configuration settings will not be restored.
- The system will automatically use the HA cluster hostname in the configuration file as the server name.
Restoring Web Server Settings
- If the "Web" shared folder doesn't exist on the destination NAS, the shared folder will not be automatically created, and your web server will not work properly.
- To ensure the web server works properly, manually disable and then re-enable the web server:
- Go to Control Panel > Applications > Web Server.
- Deselect Enable Web Server and click Apply.
- Reselect Enable Web Server and click Apply.
