Details
Adding a QNAP router to a QuWAN network improves network performance by optimizing traffic routing, prioritizing critical applications, and managing bandwidth efficiently. It enhances security with encrypted VPN tunnels and centralized management while enabling seamless communication between headquarters, branch offices, and remote users. This tutorial explains how to configure QuWAN settings on your QNAP router to integrate it into your SD-WAN infrastructure.
Before you start
- Create a QNAP ID to authenticate and access QuWAN settings in the router interface. A QNAP ID is required to link your router to QuWAN Orchestrator.
For details see, Creating a QNAP ID in the QTS or QuTS hero user guide. - Create an organization in QNAP Organization Center to define a network domain and manage QuWAN deployments. An organization is required for QuWAN Orchestrator to register and configure your router. For details, see Creating an organization in the QTS or QuTS hero user guide.
- Familiarize yourself with the QuWAN device hierarchy to ensure you have a clear understanding of how devices are organized and connected within your network before configuring the QuWAN settings on your QHora-301W router. For details, see How do the concepts of organization, region, and device roles apply when adding your QNAP router to QuWAN Orchestrator?
Procedure
- If you are logging in with your QNAP ID for the first time, you are prompted to enter the local account credentials as part of the 2-step verification process.
- After configuring and saving the QuWAN settings, the device restarts in order to implement the settings and join the QuWAN network.
- Log in to QuRouter with your QNAP ID.
- Go to QuWAN > QuWAN Settings.
- Configure the QuWAN settings.
Setting User Action Organization Select an organization associated with your QNAP ID. NoteIf there are no organizations associated with your QNAP ID, click Configure organization settings. QuRouter redirects you to the QNAP Account website where you can create a new organization or edit an existing one.Region Select a region linked to the selected organization. To add a new region, click Add Region. Site Select a site from the drop-down menu. To create a new site or edit an existing site, click Configure site settings. Device name Click to edit the name of your router.
Device role Select one of the following: - Hub: Configure the device as an SD-WAN hub. A public IP address is required for the WAN connection to select the device as a hub.
- Edge: Configure the device as an SD-WAN edge.
Important- You can only assign the edge role to devices behind NAT in an organization.
- QuWAN Orchestrator automatically assigns the hub role to the first device added to the organization only if it is assigned a public IP address.
- If the QuWAN device is using a private IP address, you can only assign the edge role using QuRouter. If you have enabled port forwarding on the router in front of the QuWAN device, you can change the device role from edge to hub in QuWAN Orchestrator.
- Click Join the Organization and QuWAN.
A confirmation message appears. - Click OK.
QuRouter adds the router to the QuWAN topology.
- If the pre-assessment test fails, QuRouter displays the Configuration Quick Fixes page with proposed adjustments to the router configuration.
- To access QuWAN Orchestrator, click
on the taskbar, and then click Go to QuWAN Orchestrator.
- Routers integrated into a QuWAN network are no longer accessible or manageable through the QuRouter mobile app. Integrating a router with a QuWAN network disassociates it from your QNAP ID, removing it from the app's purview. The QuRouter app is designed for managing individual routers linked to QNAP IDs.
- QHora-301W routers support a maximum of 30 VPN connections, while QHora-321 and QHora-322 models support up to 1000 VPN tunnels.
