3.5" HDDs over 5TB (see Table 1) can be installed in a QNAP Turbo NAS. But you may need to get new hard drive trays to install HDDs from certain manufacturers.
There is no need to buy additional trays for the TS-x31, TS-x31+, TS-x51, TS-x53, TVS-x63, TVS-x71, TS-x79, TS-x80, TVS-x80, HS series and other models that do not support hot-swappable hard drives.

To allow for more capacity, some manufacturers have shifted the mounting holes on HDDs as shown below:
