I would like to back up the vSphere Virtual Machine to remote storage. Can I do so with the block-level replication approach via NFS?

Answer:

Rsync is based on block-level replication technology. However, to backup the vSphere Virtual Machine to remote storage, the virtual machine will need to be suspended or server buffer memory flushed before data can be replicated. Or, the data being backed up is likely to become inconsistent.

Users are recommended to use virtual machine backup software (such as Veeam or Symantec) for this task.
