Why does my custom SMTP server not work in Notification Center?

If you have added a custom SMTP server to Notification Center and are unable to send test emails, you should confirm that these settings match those of your SMTP server.

Common mistakes with setting custom SMTP servers are what values are used for Secure connection, Port number, and Username.

No secure connection

When Secure connection is set to None, the Username should not contain the full email address.

SSL

When Secure connection is set to SSL, the Username should contain the full email address.

TLS

When Secure connection is set to TLS, the Username should contain the full email address.
