How to use Acronis® True Image to back up your PC to the QNAP NAS?

Overview

QNAP NAS is compatible with Acronis® True Image, a third-party backup software,. You can install Acronis® True Image on your PC to either back up your folders, disks, partitions, or even your whole PC to QNAP NAS with full, incremental, or differential backup methods. In this tutorial, we introduce how to back up a PC to NAS using Acronis® True Image 2016 - and if your PC becomes unbootable, how to restore the PC. For more information, please refer to the Acronis website.

To back up your NAS, we recommend using Real-time Remote Replication (RTRR).
Please refer to the following tutorial:

Before starting

Install Acronis® True Image 2016 to your PC.

Back up your PC to NAS

Run Acronis® True Image software 2016. Click “Entire PC” to select specific disks, partitions, files or folders for backup.

We strongly recommend that you back up your entire PC to the NAS, and create a rescue media save (covered later in this tutorial) so that you can recover your entire PC if it becomes unbootable.

Click “Select destination”.

Select “Browse”.

Click the “+” icon in front of “Network” to find your NAS, and then click the “+” icon in front of your NAS to see its shared folders. Select the shared folder you want to back up your data to, and click “Ok”.

Enter the username and password of your NAS account.

Incremental backup is selected by default. This scheme will create a full version after every five incremental versions. In “Options” you can configure the schedule, backup scheme, notifications and other advanced settings. Click “Back up now” to start.

Create a rescue media

Go to “Tools” > “RESCUE MEDIA BUILDER” > “ACRONIS BOOTABLE RESCUE MEDIA” and follow the on-screen instructions to create a rescue media that allows you to restore your computer if it becomes unbootable.

Restore

Click “Recover files”.

Select the data you want to restore. If you have multiple backup versions, you can select one from the drop-down menu in the top-right corner. Click “Next”.

Data will be restored to its original location by default. You can change to another destination by clicking “Browse” (other advanced settings can be configured in “Recovery options”). Click “Recover now”.

Recover your PC with a rescue media

If your computer becomes unbootable, use the rescue media to boot your computer. Use the arrow keys to select “Acronis True Image 2016”.

Select “Recover”.

Select “Browse for backup”.

Click “Computers Near Me” and find the backup files. Click “OK”.

Right click on the backup files, select “Recover”, and follow the on-screen instructions.
