Preface

With the built-in Twonkymedia UPnP media server Sony PSP and Nokia N95 owners can now enjoy their media contents stored on the QNAP NAS. This guide will demostrate how you can achieve this with only a few steps need to setup. Below's the usage scenario.

Enable the UPnP Media Server
Go to 'Applications' and 'UPnP Media Server' and enable the service by ticking the checkbox says 'Enabled UPnP Media Server' and click on 'Apply'. The UPnP Media Server function is now ready!
Setup the TwonkyMedia Server
Point your browser to 'http://TurboNAS IP:9000/', you will enter TwonkyMedia configuration page. You can specify the locations of the contents you would like to share in your home network under the 'Content Locations'. Simply type in the path to the contents on your QNAP NAS (default folder is Qmultimedia). In the example, we added an extra share /Qdownload.
For ease of browsing if you have a large amount of media contents, you can configure the navigation tree for your photos, videos, and music. This powerful feature lets you pick your media contents on TV easily.
When you have completed the configuration, make sure you have clicked the button Save Changes to save the settings.
Locate the UPnP server from Sony PSP

Connect your PSP to your local wireless network. On the PSP main home menu, go to "Internet Browser" under the Network panel.

  • Search the TwonkyMedia server in PSP

Enter this address in the browser: 'http://QNAP-NAS-IP:9000/rss' (9000 is the service port of TwonkyMedia), e.g., if your Turbo NAS IP is 192.168.1.88, enter 'http://192.168.1.88:9000/rss'.

  • Browse to the Twonkymedia server

When the connection is successfully established, the music navigation tree you defined on the TwonkyMedia page of NAS is shown. Click on the RSS feeds you want to subscribe to.

Select "Yes" to add the channel.

After adding the RSS feeds, you can go to 'RSS Channel' in Network section.

All the music contents that match the selected feeds are displayed. You can start to play the music from your PSP!

Locate the UPnP server from Nokia N95

Go to "Settings/ Home netw./ Share content", and turn on "Share content". Connect N95 to WLAN (wireless LAN) and search for QNAP Turbo NAS on the network. Make sure they are in the same local network.

  • Search the TwonkyMedia server in PSP

Browse the multimedia files on the Qmultimedia or specified folder of QNAP NAS with N95. Select the music, video, or picture to play. Select "Show via home network" (images or video) or "Play via home network" (music).

  • Browse to the Twonkymedia server

Browse and select a media player (UPnP) in the network. You can then use N95 as a remote control and play/ show the files via the media player.
