Access your QNAP remotely via WebDAV

What is WebDAV and how can one benefit from it?
WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning), is a set of extensions to the HTTP(S) protocol that allows a web server to appear as a standard network drive. With WebDAV support, the QNAP NAS user will be able to access the share folders via HTTP/HTTPS protocol remotely.

WebDAV clients are native to Windows XP/Vista, Mac OS X, etc. You can simply mount the network drives (web folders) from one of these operating systems to one or several share folders on the NAS. A WebDAV server benefits from the HTTP infrastructure in the following ways:

• Able to use 256-bit AES SSL encryption
• Bypass firewalls and proxies
• Faster than Microsoft networking(SMB/CIFS) over VPN

Set up a WebDAV share folder
Before getting started, go to "Network Services" > "Web Server". Enable the Web Server and WebDAV support.

Next, you will need to set up the WebDAV access right for each share folder. Go to "Access Right Management" > "Share Folders", click "WebDAV Access Control" in the "Action" column, and set up the WebDAV access right for the folder.

Note that the WebDAV access right setting will be applied to all the users who have been granted to access this share folder via WebDAV, and they will share the same access right setting.

That's it. Now you have finished the WebDAV settings and can use it on your client PC.
