Announcement
Recently we have received many feedbacks from our customers who were experiencing some troubles while running Seagate (ST31500341AS with SD15, 17 or 18) 1.5TB hard drive(s) on the QNAP NAS, such as randomly pause or hang for around 30 seconds at a time during certain write operations. And this randomly freezing will also lead to losing the existing RAID configuration.

Here is the statement from Seagate on TechReport.com which were posted on Nov. 10, 2008 (http://techreport.com/discussions.x/15863). Seagate has stated that they have noticed this and are working on an upgradeable firmware to resolve it.

In order to solve this problem for all the QNAP users before we can actually have the solution from Seagate, QNAP now provides our customers a special edition firmware, which is based on the latest official release (v2.1.2 build 1031) with Seagate ST31500341AS (SD15, 17 and 18) 1.5TB hard drive write-cache disabled. This should be able to fix the problem, but you might also experience some performance drop at the same time.

The hard drive temperature is checked every 10 minutes if the HDD standby mode in “System Tools” > “Hardware Settings” is disabled.

1.      The hard drive temperature is checked 10 minutes after the time set in HDD standby mode if the option is enabled. For example, if 5 minutes is selected in the HDD standby mode option, the system checks the hard drive temperature after 15 minutes (5+10 min).

Fixed:

l          BT download could not start occasionally when switching from schedule download to continuous download.

l          Filezilla 3.1.1 shows "Could not read from transfer socket: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted" when connecting the NAS by TLS/SSL.

l          Schedule download tasks cannot be started when the total number of tasks on Run/ Pause/ Finished lists is larger than the maximum number of running tasks.

l          Surveillance Station login issue

l          Add inotify in kernel config, due to Twonky rescan setting to -1 issue

l  Surveillance Station
The Surveillance Station is a new application on the second generation Turbo NAS series. It enables the users to monitor up to two IP cameras and record and play the video. All the functions and configurations can be carried out by the IE browser over the Internet regardless the location of the cameras. Users can flexibly define the recording settings: continuous recording, motion-detection recording, and schedule recording according to their security plan.
